Building Characters

Rule 1 of character creation is play what you want to play. With that in mind, it would be spiffy if the party filled the basic roles, so you had things like a leader for healing and all of that good stuff. I’m happy to work with what you have, but you probably don’t want to make it harder on yourselves than you have too.

Rule 2 of character creation is that you don’t need to min-max your characters to be effective. I’ll work with what you give me. If you all bring in perfectly-tuned adventuring machines, I will prepare appropriate encounters to give you a challenge. If you have a party of less-than-optimized PCs, I’ll adjust the encounters as appropriate to give you a challenge. The idea will be to have fun, not to punish players for failing to min-max their characters.

Starting Level and Resources

All PCs will start out at level 1 with the standard 100 GP to buy equipment and serve as starting cash.

Allowed Sources

Anything published in the PHB, PHB2, Adventurer’s Vault, and the <power> Power books, along with the Artificer playtest from Dragon is permitted. Other things published in the Dragon, Forgotten Realms, Eberron, and other sources are not allowed.

Starting Races

The following races are the only ones available for PCs at the start of the campaign:

  • Dragonborn
  • Dwarf
  • Elf
  • Half-Elf
  • Human
